I am a teacher by day and a writer by night. I earned my MFA in Creative Writing from Western Colorado University, where I focused on poetry and creative nonfiction.
As a Christian, a teacher, and a writer, I believe that the words we use should care for people and bring them together. I delight in the opportunity to help people expand and respond to their understanding of the world and themselves.
I am an observer and a truthteller (hard truths included), so I write out of my observations and experiences. I believe that we are better humans when we practice authenticity and experience the empathy that comes from engaging with one anotherβs stories. Stories allow us to feel seen, heard, and understood, while transporting us into an experience outside of our own. I know this to be true from the books, poems, songs, and other storytelling forms that have inspired, uplifted, or otherwise influenced me.
Music and laughter are like bread and butter to me; they feed my soul and inform my craft. Beauty and humor are vehicles that help us arrive at the other side of hardship. I write towards hope rather than dwell in despair. When I can, I write into wonder and recognize each instance of wonder as a signpost that points back to my Creator.
If laughter burned calories exponentially, I wouldn't have to worry about getting to the gym. Of course, that's not how the body was designed, so I really should get to the gym regularly, because exercise is good for the body. I hope you find something here that's good for the soul.
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, βThe Lord has done great things for them."
Psalm 126:2
