Dear Friend
Can I tell you something a bit uncomfortable, Wilderness? I am black. That is not the uncomfortable thing. The thing is, in my experience, black people are not wilderness people. Life is hard enough without trying to make it so.
Since I know nothing of you, but your form, I will say this to you as though none or maybe all of the things that I wondered are true. This is not Greenwich Village, and we do not live in an episode of Friends.
Did I applaud your cries for help rather than hearing them for what they may have been? Did I sing along with you and not recognize the hurting that I felt was ringing out in your voice too?
