06.25.25 | Adventure Challenge Book

Finally tried a few challenges from my Adventure Challenge book, which I bought in January of this year. In my defense, I’m a teacher; I work 12-hour days, and I was wrapping up my MFA. Now that I have some time back, I can’t wait to dig into more adventures.
06.24.25 | Trivia Night @ Lockwood
Tried my first trivia night tonight at Lockwood I was a little nervous about going it alone, but I had a great time, and I managed to win a prize, even though I didn't earn the highest score. Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday night. Thanks for a fun time @lockwooddistillingco!
06.23.25 | Cos-no-politan Mocktail

New summer mocktail recipe, compliments of my friend Cami.
06.22.25 | Medium Rare Steak
The least Texan thing I do is order my meat well done, because I want to know that the cow is all the way cooked, and that little pink streak sounds like mooing to me. Today I tried a medium-well steak - pink streak and all. And I lived. I won’t do it again, but it was not bad, and I could even understand the appeal a bit.
06.21.25 | Impromptu Cover

This impromptu cover with my little brother was such a gift. I used to sing with my siblings all the time, but in adult life, that happens a lot less, what with time, distance, and all the other things that get in the way. This occasion is especially wonderful because Isaiah is in the military, and he hasn’t been home for about 2 years. He only came for a short visit to meet our new nephew, but he managed to fit in some time to sing with me.
06.20.25 | Bourbon Cream

If I say I’ve had a cold one after work, I mean cream soda. Otherwise, juice is my jam, but now and then I try a grown-up beverage. I haven’t tried many that I’ve liked, but here’s an exception.
06.19.25 | Newborn Nephew
I’m officially an aunt! I held my nephew for the first time today. Just wow.
06.18.25 | Smores Bouquet

Tried my hand at a Smores Bouquet. Not mad at it, but I definitely have notes for next time.
06.17.25 | FCG's Lobster & Shrimp Grilled Cheese

My sister and I decided on Lobster & Shrimp Grilled Cheese at Fish City Grill. It comes with cheddar, jack, American, queso blanco, thick-cut bacon, sriracha, and green onions on grilled sourdough. Why did it take us so long to try this? Delicious. We also tried the FCG Sampler, which includes calamari, fried pickles, shrimp, and crab queso. No notes. Except maybe, please include more chips for that queso…
06.17.25 | Hosting My First Poetry Workshop
I hosted my first poetry workshop at Bibliobar tonight. We learned a little and played a lot. There were moments of laughter and moments of reflection. Ah, poetry. 💕 Looking forward to the next time.
06.16.25 | Dallas Arboretum Maze

This cute little maze is a well-loved feature of The Children's Adventure Garden at The Dallas Arboretum. It’s an easy maze with several hidden gems inside. My students had so much fun, and I enjoyed the experience too.
06.15.25 | Whiskey Cake's Fish 'N Chips
Per my sister’s recommendation, I tried this tasty fish dish, which includes beer-battered wild Atlantic haddock, dill crumble, Sazerac barrel-aged malt vinegar, hand-cut fries, and remoulade. Full disclosure: I did not try the vinegar, and though I sampled the remoulade, I did not particularly like it. The chips were a little salty, but I didn’t mind. I loved the fish, particularly the dill crumble. I only wish there were a honey mustard dip to complement it. I know that’s not common for fish, but hear me out - dill and honey mustard…
06.14.25 | Lazy Dog's PBJ Burger

This PB&J Burger from Lazy Dog seems a little strange, but it’s worth a try. As it often is, the bacon was the best part!
06.13.25 | Adult Jam Sesh
Many moons ago, in my early college years, I was part of a wonderful organization at UTD called MusNet, and I got to connect and play with other musicians. It’s been a long time since I’ve whipped out this beautiful guitar to jam with a friend. Today’s adult jam really filled my cup.
06.12.25 | Art House Exchange

This Dallas event for creatives to interact and be inspired is hosted so deep in Dallas that I almost didn’t attend. The drive was well worthwhile for the chance to connect with other creatives, especially writers (who seem especially hard to find in the wild).
06.11.25 | Almond Milk
click for video
After years of resisting plant-based milk alternatives, I finally decided to give almond milk a try.
06.10.25 | Lazy Glasses
My sister introduced me to these very cool glasses that allow you to read or watch TV from a reclined position. Fun fact: anyone who looks at you may experience a fun house mirror effect where your eyes look like lobster eyes or appear out of place on your face.
06.09.25 | Frozen Grapes
It never occurred to me to freeze grapes, but now that I’ve had these, it feels like the only way to enjoy them. Healthy, delicious, and refreshing, frozen grapes are a perfect summer snack.
06.08.25 | Lifelines' Lamp Craft

Tried this fun craft with my sister, Kerissa. We poured and blended colors over tiles, then arranged them inside our panels to create a beautiful stained glass aesthetic for our lamps.
